Top jockey gave horse electric shock to win race as picture shows him holding device

Top jockey Roman Chapa has been suspended from racing after allegedly being caught using an electric shock device to win a race.

The veteran rider was photographed with what officials claim was an illegal implement as he neared the finished line.

The 43-year-old jockey was in fifth place at Sam Houston Race Park on January 17 when his mount, Quiet Acceleration, surged to the front of the nine-horse field to win by half a length.

But track photographer Jack Coady captured snaps of Chapa just before the finish of the £33,000 race, which his horse won at odds of 10-1.

Horse racing website the Pauliuck Report then published details about the race using the picture taken close to the finish.

According to police documents, Chapa contacted Coady demanding he take the photo down from the website because “it was a bad picture”.
